Coupled reservoir-geo-mechanics model for wellbore stability and sand prediction

2001
Sand production and openhole collapse during production are great concerns because the effects often are associated with high production rates. To determine the critical flow rate for sand production or bottomhole pressure for wellbore collapse, a coupled reservoir-geomechanics model was developed that simulates the interaction between reservoir flow and deformation. Reservoir-porosity increase resulting from formation dilation, which can generate a negative skin near a well and enhance production, also is simulated by the model and can be used to analyze the range of the enhanced zone and evaluate the enhancement.
