Splenic rupture in infectious mononucleosis.

RUPTURE of the spleen in infectious mononucleosis is a rare complication of a rather common disease. King,1 in 1941, presented the first authenticated case. Since then 13 additional cases have been reported.2 3 4 5 6 7 8 It is the purpose of this paper to present 2 additional cases of infectious mononucleosis complicated by splenic rupture. In 1 of these the primary pathologic process was unsuspected preoperatively. In the other the diagnosis had been established before operation was undertaken. Subsequent to splenectomy both patients recovered full health, and microscopical changes consistent with those described as occurring in infectious mononucleosis were found in both the removed . . .
