Surgical Treatment of Bilateral Galeazzi Factures in a Young Man: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

2005
Galeazzi fracture is defined as a fracture involving the distal to middle third of the radius with concurrent dislocation of the ipsilateral distal radioulnar joint. Bilateral involvement of Galeazzi fracture is very rare. Here we present a young man who had bilateral Galeazzi fractures after a trafic accident. He was suffered from a direct impact on his right forearm, followed by a fall on the left outstretched hand. Initially, he was treated with open reduction and internal fixation with one-third tubular plates bilaterally. However, breakage of the right tubular plate occurred six weeks after surgery. He was treated by replating using a dynamic compression plate and supplement autogenous bone grafting. One year after operation, the clinical result was evaluated by a popular grading system. The left upper extremity was graded as a good result and right side fair. In our case, open reduction and rigid fixation with dynamic compression plate for bilateral radial fractures was recommended. Because the bilateral DRUJ were reducible and stable, neither repair of the triangular fibrocartilage complex nor temporary transfixation of the DRUJ still had a good result.
