Influence of the type of electron hybridization on the intensity of carbon auger spectra

1996
We present Auger and photoelectron spectra of a number of carbon samples which differ in the type of hybridization of the valence electrons. The spectra were excited with aluminum Kα radiation (1486.6 eV). The integrated intensity of the carbon Auger spectrum exhibits a sensitivity to the nature of the atomic order. Our interpretation of this effect is based on calculations of the probabilities for the Auger process in three allotropic forms of carbon, which agree qualitatively with the experimental results. The details of the behavior of the phonon components in the Auger spectra of the samples studied may also be used for identification of the carbon structure type.
