Seismic acquisition near a large compressor plant

1992
3D seismic data is being used to aid reservoir development efforts in mature fields with increasing regularity. In many cases, however, the noises generated by the oil field facilities compromise seismic data quality. The Swanson River field on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska is an example of such a circumstance. Here, historic attempts to acquire seismic data within 3 km of the main compressor plant have yielded poor to non-existent results. This paper describes the results of a noise study designed to quantify this problem and discusses new recording techniques which reduce the poor data zone to a radius of 200m around the plant.
