Mood and anxiety disorders

2021
Abstract: Depression and anxiety are among the most prevalent of psychiatric complications after TBI. Both depression and anxiety are associated with greater cognitive and functional impairment, and both may complicate recovery and increase TBI-related disability. Timely identification and treatment of these disorders is thus crucial to improving outcomes and psychosocial functioning. This chapter describes the prevalence, etiology, evaluation, and treatment of posttraumatic depression (PTD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) after TBI.
