Investigation of the Impact Response of PMMA-Based Nano-rubbers Over a Large Range of Temperatures and Strain Rates

2020
In order to benefit from nano-rubber copolymers suitable properties, dynamic behavior of nano-rubbers reinforced poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was investigated. For this purpose, split-Hopkinson pressure bars at different strain rates and temperatures were used for dynamic tests. Furthermore, the impact resistance of the material was studied by performing low-velocity impact tests by the means of a drop-weight tower, at different impact energies. The experimental results showed a decrease in both Young’s modulus and yield stress. Both materials also exhibited a strain rate and temperature dependence. Moreover, PMMA-based nano-rubbers showed outstanding impact resistance properties as compared with the neat resin.
