Unsteady pressure field investigation in a nozzle b y using anodized-aluminum PSP technique under supersonic flow conditions

2008
This paper presents an application of the Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) technique for unsteady flow conditions. We used anodized-aluminum coating to investigate the topology of the flow field inside a nozzle during the transient phase and to assess the pressure gradient at the outlet region during the steady state phase. Images are acquired by using a fast frame rate camera up to 5000 images per seconds which is in accordance with the response time of the paint that is below 200 microseconds. Discrepancies between PSP results and pressure measurements obtained with Kulite sensors are due to a temperature effect and to condensation of the exhaust air which modifies the optical path between the observed surface and the camera.
