Airborne SAR motion compensation and moving target indication

2012
This paper describes a precise real-time Doppler parameter estimation algorithm, which is based on the estimation of the pitch and yaw angles directly from radar returns. The application of this technique allows using a simple navigation system consisting of a radar altimeter and a GPS receiver only. The pulse compression technique with binary phase coding of transmitted pulses has been used to achieve high range resolution, which reduces requirements to the digital signal processing system and enables the realization of real-time signal processing easily. The radar data acquisition system contains of FPGA and DSP to realize motion compensation for airborne SAR and indication of moving targets. Results of measurement show that the algorithm is valid.
