Late Breaking Abstract - The impact of tabacco heating systems on haemodynamics

Introduction: The introduction of Tobacco Heating System (THS) started a discussion concerning the health risk of THS in comparison to normal cigarette and e-cigarette (Ecig). Therefore we conducted a four-arm crossover trial focusing on cardiovascular risk factors in an acute intervention. Methods: Data was gathered from 20 active smokers during and after smoking THS, cigarette or vaping an Ecig with or without nicotine in a partly double-blinded randomized setup. The participants were followed up for two hours after smoking or vaping. Peripheral and central blood pressures and parameters of arterial stiffness were measured by MobiloGraph™ (I.E.M., Germany). Results: Peripheral systolic blood pressure (SBP) increased statistically after smoking a conventional cigarette (+10.5 mm Hg; p 0.05). THS lead to a lower blood pressure reaction than a conventional cigarette. AIx as a surrogate parameter for cardiovascular risks proved a negative impact for cigarette and THS more than Ecig.
