Chikungunya Virus and Zika Virus in Europe

2018
Abstract The recent emergence of chikungunya virus and Zika virus as causes of large numbers of human cases in many different countries, particularly in the New World, has largely been driven by travel from endemic countries during periods of active transmission. As described in this chapter, cases of both CHIKV and ZIKV have been reported from many European countries, and because of the establishment of the Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus , autochthonous cases have resulted in localized outbreaks.
