The present invention relates to the field of photocatalyst, particularly as a core metal is cadmium, zinc oxide and CdS heterojunction structure composite shells efficient photocatalytic decomposition of water and catalyst preparation method, the solution is typically zinc oxide and the composite catalyst CdS carriers can not effectively transfer the problem quickly, making the catalytic efficiency greatly improved. Zinc as a precursor, cadmium sulfide shell displacement reaction sulfide generation process by cadmium ions, to obtain a highly efficient photocatalytic metal core cadmium, zinc oxide, and a semiconductor heterostructure CdS shell catalyst decomposition of water. Wherein the molar ratio of the metal cadmium share 50% to 90%, molar ratio of the zinc oxide proportion of 5%, the cadmium sulfide molar percentage proportion of 5% to 45%. The core metal catalyst has a high capacity photocatalytic decomposition of water, hydrogen production rate up to 23mol h-1g-1, is expected to decomposition of water in the field of solar energy has been applied.
