In situ observation of strain distributions in adhesive layers using speckle interferometric microscope

In this study, strain distributions in thin adhesive layers of adhesively bonded joints, particularly near the tips of adherends, were investigated experimentally. For the purpose, a microscope which had a laser interferometer was developed Displacements of any points on the objects and their in-plane deformation could be measured from variation of speckle patterns.
