Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of palladium (II) complexes with heterocyclic thioamides type N,N'-alkyl-bis- methyl(2-amino-1-cyclopentencarbodithioate) (alkyl = ethyl, L 1 ; propyl, L 2 ; butyl L 3 )

2012
Palladium (II) complexes derived from N,N'-alkyl-bis(methyl-2-amino-1-cyclopentencarbodithioate) (alkyl = ethyl, PdL 1 ; propyl PdL 2 ; butyl, PdL 3 ) were synthesized; these compounds were characterized using spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis, IR-FT, NMR- 1 H), elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, conductivity measurements and computational chemistry. Charac- terization of the complexes has shown these chelates are monomeric species, (Pd(II)N2S2), with square-planar and highly distorted pseudo-tetrahedral coordination geometries, with strong charge delocalization in the six membered chelate rings. In addition, the catalytic activity of the palladium (II) complexes in C-C coupling reactions under conditions of Buchwald- Hartwig was explored, with p-bromotoluene and diethylamine. Analysis by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry of the products, indicate a C-C coupling between two molecules of p-bromotoluene, to generate 4,4'-dimethyl-1,1'-biphenyl.
