Correlation Between Support and Life Quality in Patients with Schizophrenia

Objective To explore the feasibility and the effect of improving family support and life quality through family intervention in patients with schizophrenia.Methods One hundred and forty-three patients with schizophrenia were randomly divided into two groups: 72 patients in control group were routinely treated with antipsychotics and 74 patients in trial group were subjected to family intervention besides antipsychotics for one year. All patients were assessed by Family APGAR Index and Lancashire Quality of Life Profile (LQOL) before and after intervention.Results After intervention, the total score and all factor score in trial group were obviously higher than in control group, except for factor scores of reside environment and law security (all P0.05). There was a positive correlation between family support and condition of job, leisure activity, family relationship, social communication, health and total life condition (P0.05, P0.01).Conclusion Family intervention is useful for teaching relatives of patients to offer effective family support to improve patient's life quality.
