The radiative capture cross section of gold at the energy of SbBe photoneutrons

Abstract The 197 Au(n, γ) 198 Au reaction has been studied using a calibrated SbBe photoneutron source. The 198 Au activity produced in the reaction was determined by an absolute counting technique. A value of 640 ± 25 mb for the cross section was obtained, at the assumed neutron energy of 24·8 keV.
