Clinical application of optimized fast-track program for elder patients with intertrochanteric fractures

2017
Objective To investigate the clinical application of optimized fast-track program for elder patients with intertrochanteric fractures. Methods Total 301 elder patients with intertrochanteric fractures were randomly divided into the traditional group (not using the optimized fast-track program,n =150) and the optimized fast-track group (using the optimized fast-track program,n =151) for comparative study in our hospital from June 2013 to October 2015.Surgical delay, length of stay,in-hospital complications and patient satisfaction were observed.Harris score was used to evaluate the hip function. Results Surgical delay and length of stay were significantly shorter in the optimized fast-track group than in the traditional group (P <0.05).Compared with the traditional group, the satisfaction rate of inpatients in the optimized fast-track group was significantly higher than that in the traditional group (P <0.05).All cases were followed up for 12~40 months (mean 15.6 months). The Harris scores of the fast-track group were higher than those of the traditional group (P <0.05).Conclusion The treatment of optimized fast-track program for elder patients with intertrochanteric fractures can shorten surgical delay, length of stay, reduce in-hospital complications, improve the patient satisfaction during hospitalization, and regain basic mobility. It is worthy to be popularized in clinical practice.
