Abstract These studies have demonstrated pathways whereby one urinary protein, holotransferrin, may alter proximal tubular cell function and cause tubular cytotoxicity, and at least two urinary proteins, albumin and transferrin, may mediate the development of interstitial inflammation in proteinuric renal disease.
