A PERCEPÇÃO DOS PROFISSIONAIS DE SAÚDE SOBRE A MORTE EM UTI – UMA REVISÃO

Among all human beings who need to live with death, health professionals in the Intensive Care Unit scenario are more likely, given the severity of the patients. This study aimed to understand the perception of these professionals about death. This is an integrative literature review carried out in March 2021 in the Virtual Health Library Database. For the search, the following Descriptors were used: intensive care unit, attitude towards death and health professionals. Two thematic categories were extracted from the articles: the perception of professionals facing death and the ethical themes of orthothanasia and dysthanasia. It was observed that, despite being more experienced and prepared to deal with situations involving finitude, health professionals are unable to become familiar with it, on the contrary, the confrontation with death arouses adverse feelings of: failure, guilt and impotence.
