Plasmid-mediated direct-glucose oxidation in Gluconobacter oxydans

Abstract Mitomycin-C at a minimum inhibitory concentration induces curing of native plasmid from Gluconobacter oxydans (ATCC-9937). Loss of plasmid gave rise to variants with no membrane bound NADP-independent dehydrogenase activity. As a consequence no direct glucose oxidation resulted in the cured isolates though glucose was metabolised through NADP-dependent dehydrogenase present in cytosol of these variants.
