Claw-pole optimisation of an automotive alternator using permeance network coupled with electric circuits

1999
The claw-pole shape optimisation of an automotive alternator using accurate numerical simulations and experimental design method is presented. The aim of the study is to reduce the third order harmonic of the electromotive force This complex machine has been modelled as an electrically coupled permeance network, taking into account the saturation, electronic commutations, and rotor movement and realising a good compromise between simulation time and precision. Some geometric parameters of the claws are then defined and the experimental design method is used to find a global optimum. Results are confirmed by measurement on hardware.
