Abstract: Epidemiological studies on the prevalence of temperament types in the general population hav e shown that anxious temperament is more frequent among women. In turn, studies evaluating the temperament of parti cipants of foreign populations specifically using the model of motivational approach system BIS/BAS revealed that women were more likely to anxious temperament than men. However, few studies have been conducted among women in Brazil. Whereas anxious temperament is predictive factor fo r mood disorders in the female population, it is ap propriate to conduct studies that investigate the prevalence of this type of temperament among women. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of anxious temperament in a sample of undergraduate students in the ci ty of Rio Verde -GO. To this end, 160 undergraduate students of var ious courses at the Universidade de Rio Verde , age d 18-49 years responded individually to the BIS/BAS Scale in orde r to assess their temperament in a classroom design ed for this activity. The sample was non- probabilistic and par ticipation was voluntary by signing the consent for m. There was no statistically significant difference ( t = 1.654494, p = 0.001) between the prevalence of anxious and imp ulsive in temperament participants. The present results are i n agreement with literature according to which women tend to be mainly anxious temperament. It is suggested that ne w studies that expand the sample to the general pop ulation, avoiding sample bias of all participants were undergraduate students.
