Hemolysis of erythrocytes by exposure to ultrasound standing wave

1995
The effects of various intensities of ultrasound standing wave on the integrity of red blood cells (RBCs) were studied. After exposure, samples were analyzed for plasma-free hemoglobin, plasma potassium, and osmotic fragility to assess the degree of damage to the RBCs. The exposed blood was infused to dogs to evaluate its bioeffects. Experimental data showed acceptable results.
