Nature-based solutions for FRM are unavoidably impacted by the particularity of overarching national property laws and, especially, local property ownership and land use patterns. Crabbe and Coppens (this volume) in their paper “Swapping development rights in swampy land: strategic instruments/strategies to prevent flood plain development in Flanders” have chosen to respond to the question of particularity of property laws through the lens of flood plain development in the northern Belgian region of Flanders.
