Sentimiento y expectativas del paciente oncológico

With the purpose of analyzing the feelings and expectations of the oncology patient with his illness at the beginning of its treatment , 15 patient was chosen in the oncology units of the San Jose Hospital and the Santa Bibiana Clinic. An interview as developed, non structures in deep in their homes. In this interviews they where asked about their feelings and their coping with the disease. The information were categorized inductively to understand the meaning. A qualitative phenomenology method which describes the experiences as it is perceived by the human being was employed. It pretended to understand its consciousness more than describes the phenomena but also describing its meaning and essence. Once the information was obtained, a detailed description of the contents was made and they where divided in topics and were categorized each expression taking into consideration those that expressed the feelings and expectations of the patient as they refereed to the diagnosis and treatment. Some of the categories were developed in sub categories and also inductively they were finally attached in the theoretical proposal. It was find that the main feelings were the fear and apprehension and they related to abandoning the family, the family stability after they are gone. Other feelings expressed were related to their body image , believes and values, angry, unconformity and hopelessness. Among the expectations there were found coping with the disease, hope of continue fighting against cancer, the wish of continue living, thankfulness for the support received (family, work, and society). Finally this study has immerse the importance of the nurse as a social support for the oncological patient.
