Antilipemic and antiobestic agent

PURPOSE: To obtain an antilipemic and antiobestic agent having excellent handleability free from side effects and toxicity, comprising a levan as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION: An antilipemic and antiobestic agent comprises a levan produced by a bacterium such as Streptococcus salivarius or Bacillus subtilis, a levan prepared by an enzyme produced by the bacteria or a partial decomposition product of the levan as an active ingredient. The agent is used in the dosage form of tablet, capsule, granule, drink or processed food and a dose is 1-500mg/kg daily. The levan and the partial decomposition product of the levan have excellent antilipemic action, normalizing action on cholesterol metabolism and inhibitory action on rise of neutral fats of serum and body fats free from side effects such as heat, itch, muscular disorder.
