Coefficient-of-Variation Based Optimal UHVDC Access Position Selection for Hunan Power Grid

In this paper, we present a multi-object optimization model to obtain the optimal ultra-high voltage direct current UHVDC access position. With consideration of the safety and stability of the power system, and the economy, the power flow distribution, the effective short-circuit ratio, the static voltage stability and the active power loss in different areas are respectively yield indexes. Weighted by the coefficient-of-variation method, these indexes are aggregated to build the objective function. The presented optimization model is applied in Hunan power grid solve its UHVDC planning problem. By solving the optimization problem, optimal UHVDC access positions are given, while the safety and stability are met the requirement, the active power loss is decreased, and the power shortage of the access area can be cut back in future years.
