Design of series resonant high voltage capacitor charging power supply

2021
For a pulsed power system using capacitors as an energy storage unit, the performance of the capacitor charging power supply determines the stability of the output voltage. The high-frequency resonant converter has the advantages of constant charging current and strong anti-load short-circuit capability when used for capacitor charging, which is very suitable for charging high-voltage pulse capacitors. In this paper, through the mathematical analysis of the steady-state working process of a series resonant charging power supply working in discontinuous current mode, the change law and peak characteristics of resonance current, resonance capacitor voltage, load capacitor charging voltage and charging current, and average charging current are obtained. It is proved that the series resonant power supply has inherent constant current charging characteristics, and the correctness of the theoretical analysis is verified by simulation calculation. Finally, a series resonant power supply with a resonant capacitor of 32μF, a resonant inductor of 208μH, a resonant frequency of 2kHz, a charging voltage of 10kv, and a charging time of 0.2s is designed. The measured results of the power supply are basically consistent with the calculated results.
