STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTING EFFECTIVE GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING PROGRAMMES IN SCHOOLS IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA: doi>10.24250/jpe/ no2/2021/BSFN/AA/LAA

This study examined the strategies for promoting effectiveguidance and counselling programmes in schools as perceivedby counsellors in Kwara State. The study design used was adescriptive survey. Seventy counsellors were purposivelyselected from government owned schools in each of the threedistricts. A total of 210 counsellors participated in the study.The questionnaire titled Strategies for promoting GuidanceProgramme Questionnaire (SPGPQ) was administered on therespondents. The study revealed that when counsellors aregiving opportunities to train and retrain, this can promoteeffective G & C programmes in schools. It was thusrecommended that professional guidance counsellors shouldbe allowed to go for retraining at least once in a year. Thiswill enhance the effectiveness of the guidance and counsellingprogramme in schools.
