Optic neuropathy can be a result of congenital or acquired causes. Acquired causes can be inflammatory, ischaemic, compressive or nutritional. Hereditary causes such as Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy and Autosomal Dominant Optic Neuropathy can present as acquired optic neuropathies. For the purpose of this chapter, the common and more serious causes of optic neuropathy have been discussed.
