Process for absorption of sulfur dioxide waste gas by Bayer red mud

2006
A process for absorbing exhaust gas containing sulfur dioxide by Bayer red mud is provided, comprising the steps of adding water into Bayer red mud to obtain ore pulp ejected downwards from the top of absorbing column, infusing exhaust gas containing SO2 into absorbing column from the lower thereof to contact with red mud ore pulp in counter current manner to form forced convective circulation, and carrying out the chemical reaction between red mud and SO2 by physical adsorption to remove SO2; Compared to conventional technology, the absorbent red mud have high absorption capacity and selectivity for SO2 and good chemical stability with low viscosity and low corrosiveness after dilution, and the raw material of the red mud is easy to obtain and cheap; by using the absorbent, the pollution problem can be solved.
