A contribution to the e-learning standardization

2001
The e-learning domain is involved in a significant process towards its standardization. Institutions like the IEEE, the US Department of Defense, the aviation industry or the European Union are dedicating their efforts to develop and promote standards and recommendations to support computer-based learning. However, the maturest results are targeted to define data models to support the exchange of learning resources, and neither open reference architecture nor service definitions have been proposed so far. Our contribution may be interpreted as an initial approach to such a reference architecture. Over standardized information models, we define a set of services to be offered to the domain community of distributed e-learning developers. The framework used to define such services is CORBA and its Domain Facilities. This paper aims at becoming an initial point towards a Domain CORBA facility for e-learning.
