Influence of environmental factors on development of field pea rust caused by Uromyces Viciae-Fabae

Progress of rust of fieldpea caused by Uromyces viciae-fabae (Pers.) de Bary, was greatly influenced by environmental factors. There were significant difference in mean cumulative increase in severity of rust on tested varieties Aprana, BonnviIle, Type-163, Pant pea 5 and Rachana during all the three crop seasons (rabi) of 1999, 2000 and 2001. It was noticed that maximum increase in disease severity was observed in the variety Aparana which is very susceptible to rust. It was found that rainfall significantly associated negatively with disease development during 1999–2002 crop seasons. Interestingly relative humidity and rainfall wcre significantly negatively correlated with discase development during 1999. Number of rainy days were negatively correlated with disease development during 2001; the relatively humidity and number of rainy days were also significantly negative correlated, while temperature was significant and directly associated during 1999–2002 crop seasons.
