Pedestrian Flow Characteristics in Different Union of Metro Station

When metro station is combined with railway station, the passenger flow is huge. In this thesis the pedestrian movement in some typical part of metro station is analyzed. GUANGZHOU EAST metro station was chosen to analyse the moving characteristics of pedestrians. In order to measure the passenger moving characteristics, video footage was set in a large interchange station. Passenger evacuation from metro station starts from horizontal moving to staircase for vertical movement and through the turnstile to the final safety exit. Therefore in the evacuation process the moving speed is composed of three parts: horizontal velocity, vertical velocity and velocity through the turnstile, and the speeds of different gender and age in the three sections are observed and calculated. The obtained pedestrian data is used in the evacuation simulation in GUANGZHOU EAST metro station by Pathfinder software. In terms of gender, for the horizontal and vertical movement, the moving speed of male is slightly faster than that of female. But when passing through the turnstiles, the moving speed of male is slightly slower than female. Women and elderly need more guidance and protection in the evacuation.
