Pre-study of Silicon and Aluminum Containing Materials for Further Zeolites CF-LIBS Analysis

2012
Calibration free laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (CF-LIBS) has been proposed several years ago as an approach for a quantitative analysis of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy spectra. Because major components in aluminosilicates are silicon and aluminum, silicon wafer and aluminum foil as a source of quasi pure silicon and aluminum were selected as samples for this study. A lot of spectral lines of Si and Al were observed in the measured LIBS spectra of examined samples, and then spectral line selection could be done for more accurate CF-LIBS analysis. For elimination of self- absorption effect on spectral lines, measurements at reduced pressure in vacuum chamber and with helium flow on samples surface were carried out. Moreover influence of ambient gas and pressure on electron density and temperature was monitored. According to obtained results, CF-LIBS can be applied for the following zeolites analysis and this method can provide fast and simple analysis comparing with wet chemical analyses.
