ECOLOGY AND DISTRIBUTION OF LINDENIA TETRAPHYLLA (INSECTA, ODONATA, GOMPHIDAE): A REVIEW

1998
Abstract Information (published and unpublished) on ecology, phenology, and geographical distribution of Lindenia tetraphylla is reviewed. It reaches from Sardinia (Italy; in the past also Spain) in the West, along the northern coasts of the Mediterranean, the Caspian region and the Middle East, to Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in the East. The southernmost record is from Oman. All available records are listed in a table (including collecting data and references), and mapped. Phenological data from the entire geographical range of L. tetraphylla extend from March (Oman: January) to October, with duration of the flight period depending on geographical position. L. tetraphylla inhabits lakes with extensive reed belts in its western range, while it is found on nearly all types of waterbodies in its eastern range (with a preference for flood plains of larger rivers). The migratory capacity of adults and tolerance of larvae to increased salinity and high temperature are regarded as adaptation...
