The use of concept bite videos to support students and identify fundamental topics in lecture courses:Concept Bite Videos

2017
Short summary videos of ‘key concepts form lectures’ is presented in addition to lecture capture. Originally designed to support pdf based distance learning material these ‘concept bites’ are now used in all courses and were inspired by the student generated vignettes project by Lancaster. Short links and QR codes are embedded in lecture material where possible, and additional bites are prepared upon student request. The videos are prepared using presentation software and screen capture, and typically run to just a few minutes. They are shared on YouTube and the VLE, with one of the most popular times for watching in the minutes immediately prior to the following lecture. The response of students both in house and on placement has been uniformly positive to this innovation.
