Superconductor strip response to a normally incident magnetic field

1999
Abstract The response of an infinitely long superconductor strip in its virgin state to a normally incident magnetic field is calculated. The non-divergent, analytic expressions for the screening current and magnetic field apply for a strip of arbitrary width and thickness. For a high aspect-ratio strip, the calculated surface induction and screening current spatial distribution compares well with the corresponding expressions obtained from the commonly employed (canonical) expression, provided the evaluation point is not close to the strip edges. The new expression predicts for the total screening-current a value which exceeds that obtained from the canonical expression by a factor of 5–8 and is highly peaked at the strip edges.
