The effectiveness of guided inquiry-based module to improve high school students’ environmental literacy

2021
Indonesia is one of the countries that talk a lot about national issues regarding environmental problems. At first, people thought that global environmental problems were more influenced by natural factors, such as climate, which included temperature, rainfall, humidity, and air pressure. Recently, people began to realize that human activities also significantly affect climate and the environment, indicating that environmental education and literacy are very important for environmental sustainability in the future. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the guided inquiry-based module in improving high school students’ environmental literacy on environmental material and its sustainability. Measurement of environmental literacy in this study uses an environmental literacy test by adapting the Middle Schools Environment Survey test questions. Participants in this study were 59 high school students. The results obtained are interpreted using the N-gain score with an average of 0.44 which means that the module is quite effective. Thus, it can be concluded that the development of a guided inquiry-based module is effective in increasing students’ environmental literacy.
