Supporting Trans Women Living with HIV

In this chapter, the social psychological aspects of trans women’s experiences of living with HIV are examined. Through the lens of the Health Adversity Risk Model, the multifaceted experiences of stigma, the tendency to self-isolate and to conceal identity aspects, and the challenges of sex work as a trans woman living with HIV are explored. The theoretical, empirical and practical implications of the EXTRA Study are discussed and future research directions are outlined.
