TWO CASES OF LITTRE'S HERNIA IN A NEWBORN AND AN INFANT

1998
Litter's hernia is defined by the presence of a Meckel7s diverticulm as the occupant of a hernia sac and so far 32 cases have been reported in Japan. We present two cases of Litter's hernia in a newborn and an infant. First case involved an 11 day-old boy with incarceration. Second case involved an 8 month-old boy without incarceration but had a lump which always appeared even in a supine posture. In both cases, the hernia was as large as a walnut and getting to the scrotum. The operative procedures included repair of the hernia and resection of the Meckel's diverticulm. It is said that the Littre's hernia often occurs in newborns and infants and the common site of the disease is the right inguinal region in men. In the treatment, both radical operation for the hernia and resection of Meckel's diverticulm are necessary. In case of the hernia that is large in size or is associated with incarceration, we are demanded to check the sole component of the hernia sac.
