Optimized Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays Using Genetic Algorithm

2018
The use of directional current protection is very common in transmission lines and distribution lines with distributed generation, and it plays a key role in ensuring that the power supply is safely and reliably, because improper performance of the protection causes interruptions and generate various disruptions to society. To avoid these occurrences the relays must be correctly coordinated, thus avoiding unnecessary disconnection of a part of the electrical system. Thus, the purpose of this work is to determine the optimized pick-up current and time multiple values using a predetermined standard curve. These values can be determined for both radial and surface systems, according to case studies.
