Compact 2-D FDFD Analysis of Waveguide Structures with ARPACK

2018
The compact 2-D FDFD method for waveguide is concluded as an sparse eigenvalue problem (EVP). ARPACK is an open software to compute a few eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors of large scale sparse EVPs. As we are just interested in the first few modes, ARPACK is very suitable for solving the EVP. In this paper, a method with ARPACK is proposed to solve the EVP, by which the first few eigenvalues of the waveguide EVP can be solved without the generation of spurious modes, and great efficiency is achieved.
