Schizogony of Toxoplasma gondii in Tissue Cultures
1974
In cultures of human embryonic lung cells schizogonic forms of Toxoplasma gondii have been shown to develop within 48–72 hr both from trophozoites of the RH strain and from zoites of a strain of low virulence. These forms are illustrated and proof of their nature is given. The processes involved in their development and maturation are discussed. The cultural conditions are compared with those permitting schizogony and gametogony of coccidia and coccidia-like organisms.
