Effect of Differential Speed Rolling on Microstructure and Properties of AZ31 Magnesium Alloy Sheets

2007
The objective of this study on microstructure and properties of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets produced by differential speed rolling is to investigate the possibility of improved deformability of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets. The results indicate that, compared with sheets produced by normal rolling, the deformation by differential speed rolling is more than the former, and the process of dynamic recrystallization is more completed,so differential speed rolling is beneficial to the grains of magnesium alloy sheets to be refined and homogeneous;Microstructure and{0001}basal grain orientation of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets is improved to some extent with various process conditions of differential speed rolling, intenerating the texture and enhancing about 33% of elongation ratio in orientation both rolling and traverse, this shows differential speed rolling could improves deformability of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets and the capacity to be plastically deformated again.
