Sexualidade na deficiência intelectual e a importância da educação sexual: estudo de caso

The present work intends to approach the subject of sexuality among the population with intellectual disability, praise the importance of the existence of sexual education, as well as the possibility for knowledge acquisition by this population on the topic. Its intention is to follow a non-stigmatizing vision of this population and to provide the experience of a healthy and informed sexuality. As such, this is an in-depth qualitative study in which 14 awareness actions were carried in LIGA Foundation with the purpose of transmitting knowledge regarding various dimensions of sexuality. A knowledge assessment questionnaire and an interview were applied, prior and subsequent to the performance of the awareness actions. The results were positive for all the 7 dimensions addressed regarding sexuality, and, in most cases the level of information increased significantly and unquestionably. The study group demonstrates an ability to learn specific topics regarding sexuality and the need to continue this work in the future.
