The invention relates to a method for producing a purified or refined metal or semi-metal, comprising: an electrolysis step of performing an electrolysis in a in a container for an electrolytic electrolytic bath, wherein a material comprising a metal element or a semimetal element and foreign substances, is caused to act as an anode and an alloy comprising the same metal element or semi-metal element as the metal element contained in the anode or semi-metal element, and a medium metal not forming solid solution with the metal element or the metalloid element is substantially and has a temperature of complete solidification which is lower than the melting point of the metal element or semi-metal element, is caused to act as a cathode in an electrolysis temperature at which the alloy may be a liquid phase, wherein the metal element or semimetal element in the Anod e is moved to the alloy of the cathode; an extraction step of extracting a portion or the total amount of the alloy of the cathode from the container for the electrolysis out after the electrolysis stage; a deposition step of cooling the withdrawn alloy at a temperature that is higher than the temperature of complete solidification, and lower than the electrolysis temperature, for the deposition of the metal element or semi-metal element contained in the alloy; and a recovery step of recovering the precipitated from the cooled alloy metal element or semimetal element.
