Estimation of seismic and wind loads for design of a 100 m self supported industrial RCC chimney

2020
Abstract A Chimney is a medium where by waste gases produced due to industrial processes are discharged to the atmosphere. Height of the chimney is kept such that the gases get diluted due to atmospheric turbulence. The main concentration in this paper is to evaluate the results of seismic analysis and wind analysis of a 100 m Reinforced Cement Concrete Chimney. Chimney is modeled in STAAD.Pro V8i ss6 using the lumped mass modeling approach. Earthquake analysis is performed according to IS 1893(Part-4):2005 and the wind load analysis is performed according to IS 4998:2015. Wind analysis and seismic analysis are evaluated for determining the design values. Finally, we designed the 100 m RCC chimney based on the governed loads occurred. We designed 100 m RCC Chimney based on latest code which is followed limit state method. This paper is presenting completely new and innovative methods for designing a chimney which is ready to construct in field and it will help lot of industry engineers.
