Transmitter Release from the Retina

1982
Studies on the release of transmitters from the retina have involved many of the techniques used in other areas of the CNS. For example, many studies have used isolated superfused retinae in which the transmitter pool has been radiolabelled by previous incubation with precursors or the transmitter itself. In a few cases, endogenous transmitter release has been measured. A technique which is unique to the retina is the eye-cup preparation, in which the entire retina is exposed to superfusion with minimal disturbance.
