Bromide level of cows' milk as influenced by feeding peanut vines produced on soil fumigated with ethylene dibromide.

1959
Abstract Feeding peanut vine hay, grown on soil treated with 6, 8, or 10 gal of Dowfume W-40 per acre, as the only feed, resulted in a rapid rise in the bromide content of the milk of dairy cows. When such hay was fed at the rate of 15 pounds per cow daily in a ration with corn silage and concentrate mixture, only moderate increases in milk bromide content were observed. A similar moderate rise in milk bromide concentration was observed when naturally produced peanut vine hay grown near the coast in Virginia served as the only feed for a dairy cow in late lactation.
